Drink Aloe Vera Juice
Drinking aloe vera juice could help ease the discomfort from your gastric reflux for a couple of reasons. Just as the herb cools burns on your skin, so can it soothe the burning in your stomach and esophagus caused by an increase in the hydrochloric acid in your stomach.
Another reason why aloe vera juice works against heartburn is that it has alkaline properties which are opposite of the acidity of your gastric juices. Serving as a base, the aloe vera neutralizes the acid to minimize its effect on your gastrointestinal tissues.
When you start feeling a burning in your stomach, drink about a half of a cup of the juice. However, use this treatment sparingly because the juice also has a laxative effect and might send you running to the bathroom if you drink too much.
Consume Baking Soda Dissolved in Water
Another base that helps neutralize the effects of your stomach's acid is the sodium bicarbonate found in baking soda. When you drink water with a teaspoon of the soda dissolved in it, the mixture can help relieve your symptoms within minutes.
However, if you have high blood pressure or kidney issues, discuss this remedy with a doctor at your family medicine facility before trying it. As the chemical name suggests, baking soda does contain a lot of sodium that could cause issues if you are on a sodium-restricted diet.
Eat a Spoonful of Yellow Mustard
If you do not have either of the two ingredients on hand or cannot consume baking soda, reach into your refrigerator to grab a jar of yellow mustard. Taking one teaspoon of the mustard straight and undiluted could ease your heartburn.
Since mustard is an alkaline product, it can offset the acidity of the gastric juices making their way into your esophagus. If you do not care for the taste of mustard, place it as far back on your tongue as possible and swallow quickly.
